Have you ever pondered how you will survive financially when you retire? Reconfigurment by E. Alan Fleischauer is a must read. The author gives a comical, historical, and technical overview about everything you would ever want to know about making smart financial decisions from a planning to collection phase of retirement. He calls this left brain, right brain approach to financial planning "Reconfigurement". How cool is that? (Wink to the author, he used this phrase often)

At times I felt like I was listening to advice from my respectfully crass old uncle cradled back in his chair with a cigar and a whiskey, and other times I could picture myself sitting in the office of E. Alan Fleischauer receiving all the wisdom of his life's work as a seasoned, yet brilliant financial advisor. In every chapter I learned solid facts about social security, retirement age, wills and trusts, statistical information about most Americans financial fate, retirement planning resources, budgeting, and an in-depth explanation of everything you’d expect to learn in a financial investing class.

Mr. Fleischauer gives the reader hope that for whatever reason you are in a job you dislike, there's a plan called “Reconfigurement” and that you can make smart choices. This book is easy to understand and follow even if you don't have a financial background. The resources for career assessment based off the authors experience studying psychology at Grand Canyon University, with links to access aptitude, personality traits, career, and areas best suited for you is golden for those seeking a career change before or after retirement. I have no doubt Reconfigurement will remain on my bookshelf as a trusted resource when making financial decisions for myself and family…or perhaps for a little giggle, the book is loaded with humor.

Another noteworthy point is the in-depth lesson on social security and insurance. No matter your age, everyone would benefit from a clear understanding of what social security is and how it works. Mr. Fleischauer gives numerous scenarios and circumstances of when to collect social security and the pros and cons of that decision including longevity of life and survivors and spousal benefits. In addition, he thoroughly covers the topic of insurance. You will learn about disability, life and term insurance, health insurance such as Medicare, as well as income protection. If you think this topic is daunting, it's not because the author walks you through many scenarios for each so you take away enough knowledge to call up your insurance broker and speak the language. Not only are you knowledgeable enough to be protected, but by reading this book you will understand the ins and outs of Medicare and long-term planning.

I found nothing to dislike about Reconfigurement, I could hardly put it down once I started reading. This book was well edited, and for all the wonderful history lessons, comedic stories and jokes, and the eloquently written expertise I rate this book 5 out of 5 stars. I would recommend Reconfirgurement to anyone planning for the future, thinking about investing or considering retiring.
