Leaving his war-torn homeland, Galen Bray’s life changes as soon as he steps onto the ship that will sail him to Voulhire, where he’s become the inheritor of his uncle’s estate. Coming from the Land of Princes, where war is rampant, Voulhire seems like a paradise. But is Voulhire really the paradise the legends claim it to be? What awaits Galen in his new homeland?

We are Voulhire: A New Arrival under Great Skies by Matthew Tysz is the first installment of a nine-part series that is still ongoing. The story revolves around Voulhire, a rich and powerful nation where peace and prosperity reign and the people are happy. However, in the dark parts of Voulhire lurk secrets that could very well destroy the centuries of peace and prosperity that its rulers, both past and present, have struggled and fought to build. One of the mysteries surrounding Voulhire is a rebel group named the Riva Rohavi, with which various past rulers of Voulhire have fought and yet they have managed to survive till this very day. What exactly is the purpose of the Riva Rovahi? Could they have sponsors that hide among the nobility of Voulhire?

As this is the first book of the series, it focuses on world-building and character introduction. Here, we meet various characters and are introduced to the different roles they each have to play in this universe. One of the characters I had started getting fond of was Eldus Alderman, and I really looked forward to seeing him transform the town of Hillport.

Although the book starts off with action, it doesn’t keep that up throughout the whole book. The book goes from instances of action to times when the pace is slow but, surprisingly, not boring. The author ends the book in suspense, making you wonder what could happen next.

The only issue I had with the book was the lack of contents, which made it difficult to go back to certain parts of the book if they were not bookmarked. Despite this, I still rate this book 5 out of 5 stars. There is slight use of profanity in the book but not too much that would make it too jarring to read. The book was professionally edited. I highly recommend it to adults and young adults who love to read fantasy adventure novels.
