Review of Man Mission

[Following is a volunteer review of "Man Mission" by Eytan Uliel.]
Four friends, Alec, Daniel, Sam, and Eytan, are the subjects of the book Man Mission: Four Men, Fifteen Years, One Epic Journey. Sam joined the group of friends later in law school, and together they travel for roughly a week every year on exciting and challenging outdoor activities to other nations and continents. Their first purpose was to explore the various cuisines that each location has to offer while engaging in enjoyable outdoor activities, but as time goes on, they understand that their real objectives were to demonstrate their manliness and to escape from the routine tasks of their everyday lives.
The storyline has the feel of a nonfictional narrative due to Eytan Uliel's talent for storytelling. He was able to tell the story of their adventure while keeping it nicely balanced with what was happening in the present in such a way that it wasn't confusing and the story flowed smoothly. Many of the scenarios had me laughing out loud, notably when Sam and Eytan set up camp in a field of cattle and got scared, believing them to be wild beasts.
I learned a lot from this book, including the importance of strong friendships. It was incredibly interesting to read about these four friends' daily activities and even their mutual support. Together, they shared laughter and tears as well as a side of themselves that not even their family knew about. This book also taught me about the implications of risking your dream to live a successful man's perfect life. Also, I learned how a lack of proper communication might affect a person's relationship with their spouse and, hence, their quality of life.
I've never had an outdoor adventure like the one described in this book. I had the impression that I was seeing other countries and experiencing their cultures. Some of it was fascinating, like the safari outing. And without the impact of societal expectations, they discovered themselves through their journeys. These adventures help them understand what it means to be a man.
The quotes that were placed before each chapter were good, but I didn't enjoy how there was a blank space before the quotes. Other than that, I didn't have any issues with this book. Since I didn't find any errors, I think the book was exceptionally well edited. And because the aforementioned distaste did not justify taking away any stars, I gave this book 5 out of 5 stars. Also, I recommend it to everyone who appreciates an excellent book on outdoor exploration and friendship.
