The Date Farm by Jack Winnick is the fourth installment in the Lara and Uri series. Lara Edmond, an FBI agent, has just gotten married to Uri Levin, a Mossad agent. While they were having a relaxing honeymoon vacation on Lara's family farm in Ohio, an incident occurs and they are pulled back into the field. A major attack on a Beverly Hills shopping mall claimed the lives of hundreds. Not so long after that incident, the Federal Reserve and Chase Manhattan Banks are hit in a coordinated strike. Also, it is discovered that the communication lines of the Department of Defence and Homeland Security have been breached.

While Lara and Uri were vacationing, a terrorist they arrested escaped detention. He is their number-one suspect. Also, they believe that these attacks are not coincidental. Something dangerous is brewing, and it behoves the two detectives to find out what it is. What does their investigation uncover?

The author shows his writing prowess by making this book as descriptive as possible. Because of the nature of the investigation, the detectives travel to different locations in their quest to uncover the truth. All these places were well described in the book, as were the languages of the people and their customs. The author talks about societal issues such as racial intolerance, religious extremism, and gun control. In this book, we see how people have such callous intentions against another group of people just because they are not of the same religion. This is something that must be curbed by all means.

I enjoyed the rapport between the detectives. It showed the care they had for each other. I was also awed by the amount of patriotism shown by the two main characters. Even though they were on their honeymoon, they left it to answer the call of duty to protect their countries. The book was fast-paced and action-packed. There was not a dull moment in it. The suspense in the book also made it quite enjoyable. I couldn’t predict the outcome of any situation. Plot twists always kept me on my toes.

There was nothing I did not like about the book. It was exceptionally well edited, as I found no errors. I rate it 5 out of 5 stars. My reasons have been stated above. I recommend it to lovers of action thrillers and spy novels. Because of the international politics involved in the book, readers who are interested in international espionage will enjoy it. I recommend it to a mature audience because of the violence in the book.
