[Following is a volunteer review of "Man Mission" by Eytan Uliel.]
Eytan Uliel's Man Mission is a remarkable work of adventure fiction that offers an insightful male perspective on life. The book is not only thought-provoking and highly entertaining, but it also stands out due to its unique blend of fiction and travelogue.
This three-part book follows the captivating story of four friends who embark on an ambitious voyage around the world every year for fifteen years. Eytan Uliel serves as both the book's main protagonist and first-person narrator, recounting numerous noteworthy occasions that had a significant impact on their lives. Along the way, they encountered risky situations, such as dealing with drug traffickers in a remote New Zealand jungle, fending off wild animals in South Africa, enjoying luxurious resort vacations, and engaging in a range of thrilling activities. Throughout their missions, they undertook challenging sports like kayaking in wild rivers and seas, hiking, riding, trekking, and climbing. They visited diverse places like Vietnam, Japan, Iceland, New Zealand, and Fiji, each with its unique appeal. The author skillfully portrays the pros and cons of their enjoyable trips, providing a balanced perspective. Overall, the book does an excellent job of capturing the excitement and challenges of the friends' epic journeys.
Uliel's character struck me as consistently truthful as he progressed through various phases of his life, relying on his closest friends for guidance. I was captivated by the daring and adventurous nature of their escapades. The author's vivid depictions made me feel like I was part of the protagonists' journey. Additionally, the inclusion of maps for each nation they planned to explore was a delightful addition. The end-of-chapter recaps of critical details for each operation were always eagerly anticipated.
I can't think of any significant downsides to this book. It was truly remarkable. The gripping storyline, thrilling pace, and well-crafted characters were all delightful. The characters exemplify this struggle, highlighting the themes of adventure, friendship, grief, fear, and hope. Overall, this is an excellent read that offers a fascinating glimpse into the male psyche. The author's engaging and immersive writing style made it an enjoyable read for anyone who loves thrillers. I would recommend it to mature readers who appreciate contemporary literature and travel-themed novels.
I gave this book a rating of 5 out of 5 stars because of how much I enjoyed the seamless transitions between thrilling travel tales and personal narratives. I appreciated how the book offered insights into captivating cultures, people, and places. Furthermore, the editing was exceptionally well done, and the book was free of errors.
