[Following is a volunteer review of "McDowell" by William H. Coles.]
Having enemies close to your door indicates that you are a ruthless and selfish person no matter how we look at it. The life of Hiram McDowell, a physician and ardent mountain climber, is the primary subject of William H. Coles' book McDowell. Hiram is prepared to engage in extensive political scheming to obtain the job of president of the International College of Surgeons since, as a surgeon, he would have the power to modify many aspects of healthcare if he held the position.
Dr. Hiram McDowell was able to convince the well-known executive committee member of the Board of Governors to canvass support for him during the election season by promising to appoint Dr. Michael O'Leary his executive director if he won. Dr. Hiram broke his own promise after becoming president, which prompted Michael O'Leary to begin plotting Dr. Hiram's demise. Would it be possible for Dr. Hiram McDowell to endure it? When I first started reading this book, I had no idea that it would have a compelling story and provide me with a wealth of knowledge. Because this book is applicable in every way, I was able to learn so many medical industry secrets from it. I was able to learn about the risks associated with betrayal from McDowell's life. Above all, this book showed me that a guy might be cruel and self-centered, but he can also have love for his family, as Hiram did. Considering how self-centered he was, his love for his kids was quite apparent.
Every true reader would agree with me that the plot of this book is one of its strongest selling points. It would be wrong to not give the author credit for a job well done given how intriguing and bizarre the plot is. Another aspect of the book that piqued my interest was how well the author handled character development. Another feature of this work that merits attention is the writing style, which gave it a unique voice.
I must emphasize that there is absolutely nothing about this book that I dislike. Even though it featured a few coarse words, this does not warrant deducting any rating stars. I would give this book a rating of five out of five stars because I didn't see any significant typos or grammatical issues, which showed that it had been carefully edited. I'd suggest this book to political enthusiasts, parents, and medical students.
