[Following is a volunteer review of "Unicorns Know Magic" by Charles Adkins.]
Unicorns Know Magic is a children’s book by Charles Adkins that follows the adventure between a brother and sister and four unicorns who move in next door to them. In this quick read of 34 pages, the author showcases the wonderful relationship between the kids and these beautiful, majestic creatures.
The unicorn’s names are Abby, Georgia, Bitsy, and Chase. When they moved next door, the sight of them amazed the brother and sister. Once they get acquainted with one another, the siblings jump on the unicorn's back and fly away to far places, like London and Paris. The adventure aspect of this story is what I loved the most because, as a child, who didn’t dream of traveling the world on the back of a unicorn? The author does a good job of giving the readers an idea of where these unicorns come from, their talents, and the magic they possess.
Children’s books should always be entertaining and leave a message that children can learn from. One takeaway is that everyone wants to be treated with love. When the siblings introduced the unicorns to their classmates, the excitement and care the kids displayed towards the unicorns and the love the unicorns felt back were beautiful.
Visually, this book is stunning. Ros Webb is the illustrator behind these alluring and eye-catching drawings. I had a good time experiencing all the different colors and glamour on each page. I recommend kids ages 6 to 8 years old to get this book because they will enjoy these visuals, the unicorns, and the short sentences.
I’m more than happy to give Unicorns Know Magic 5 out of 5 stars. The story was reminiscent of my imagination as a young child who loved unicorns. I wish the author had given the brother and sister a name since the unicorns had one, but that did not make me dislike anything about the story. I found no grammar or spelling errors in my reading, so I can state that this book is exceptionally well-edited.
