[Following is a volunteer review of "High Clowder Cats" by Ruby Knight.]
The novel High Clowder Cats by Ruby Knight was a cute and fun tale of a young male cat venturing out on his own. This story follows Bushytail, a young stray, as he leaves the only home he has ever known to explore the wilderness and pursue his instincts to mate and build a family. Throughout his journey Bushy Tail meets other cats and learns there is more to life than hunting and mating. He learns about the importance of friends, family and loyalty as he works to pursue his goals.
Ruby Knight did a wonderful job teaching important life values in a fun and light manner, that could be enjoyed by many age groups. High Clowder Cats explores core concepts such as; relationships, trust, tranquility, and wisdom. The author explored these concepts thoroughly using simple, yet, vivid descriptions of Bushytail and his friends. Knight also incorporated interesting vocabulary that even a well read reader may need to look up in a dictionary. As a reader, I found myself to be invested in Bushytails success in his ventures and excited each time he began to understand the more complex concepts he was forced to explore.
The writer did a fantastic job creating a fun and easy to read novel that incorporated complex verbiage and concepts. This book is satisfying in so many areas it is difficult to come up with faults. The only area I could see being improved upon would be delving even deeper into the characters, descriptions of the environment and events.
I would give this novel a 5 out of 5 stars. While the writing style was advanced and well groomed the author described events in a way that made the story and difficult concepts easily attainable to younger readers. The author appeared to be well written as there were no blatant typos or grammatical errors. She developed a fun world revolving around cats and their exploration into the meaning of life beyond hunting and mating. This was exceptionally fun to read for any individual regardless of age due to the writer's complex style.
I would recommend High Clowder Cats to a rather broad audience from grade school children to adults of all ages. There were no inappropriate scenes described in the novel, even the fight scenes were described in a child friendly manner. It was very refreshing to read a novel that I could enjoy with my children and use to help them understand the concepts mentioned above.
