Over the years, we have celebrated lots of legends through books or movies that talk about them and their achievements. In A Dream for Peace: An Ambassador’s Memoir, we see and celebrate the life of one whose achievement was striving for world peace. This book is an autobiography.

Ghoulem Berrah started this book from his life as a child of his father. The story passed through his days at the local Islamic school. Ghoulem Berrah experienced colonization, its ills, restrictions, and others. He grew up wanting nothing other than the independence of his country, Algeria, and he did everything legally possible to get it. The author is a peaceful man, and he is all about diplomacy. He formed groups and connections with like-minded people to achieve their aim. How fruitful will their quest be? Grab a copy of this book to find out.

It is a non-fictional novel by Dr. Ghoulem Berrah. It is a book that celebrates his life and achievements, and the author wrote it in a narrative style. I must commend the role of his mother in disciplining him as a child, especially in education. The book discussed many things and thought-provoking subjects, such as the theme of racism. This book shows the colonization of his country and its struggle to achieve diplomatic independence.

If there is one thing I learned from this book, it is the power of connection. We have often been advised to know people, as it paves the way for us. The author knew this, and he did not fail to have powerful connections all around the world, such as with Dr. Kwame Nkrumah, President Siad Barre, President Bourguiba, President Nyerere, and President Houphouët. Another thing I noticed is that, compared to most legends, the author did have a less chaotic life. Growing up and even as an adult, he never suffered much persecution. However, even at that, he did not grow up spoilt or being one of the few rich kids in the country. He recognized the vacuum that needed to be filled and the things that needed to be done.

One thing I did not like about this book was its length. I understand the book is an autobiography and talks about the author’s life. However, I have read the biographies of other known legends in Africa, which are not too lengthy. This book contained lots of pages with small fonts. It would be appreciated if the book had a glossary to give the meaning of some native words contained in the book. For these reasons, I rate this book 4 out of 5 stars. Nevertheless, the book was educational. I also found just one error in it, which shows that it was professionally edited.

I recommend this book to lovers of history. It not only talked about the story of the author but also about Algeria. I also recommend this book to lovers of world peace.

Something refreshing about this review and book is the concept of marriage and the fact that Berrah could get acquainted with females and even had a good relationship despite his kind of ambition. Nice review.

Everyone wants a functioning independent nation but have no dream of making it work. A dream held by Dr. Ghoulem at young age became a reality after a serious struggle.

The author used this book or should I say, autobiography, to tell of his actions and activities in his mission to create peace and freedom for his people in Algeria. I can tell he died a noble man.
