The book We are Voulhire: A New Arrival under Great Skies is a well-crafted fantasy novel with a touch of realism written by Matthew Tysz. The plot of the book revolves around the concept that "fear is power." The story begins with Galen, a refugee from the chaotic land of Princes, who seeks to escape and embarks on a journey to the land of Voulhire. Voulhire is a prosperous and magnificent kingdom ruled by King Wilhelm. Galen boards a ship to escape from those who are chasing him, and his only goal is to inherit his uncle's will with the help of his executor named Rowan. Galen's uncle was a great swordsmith, and he wanted his nephew to gain what he had left behind, his abundant forgery business. The question arises whether Rowan can be trusted or not, as Galen is too carefree and trusting, despite coming from a disastrous island where killing, poverty, and hunger are no surprise.

On the other hand, the town of Hillport, a low-key island that resides beside the great ocean, has lost two lords in less than a year. King Wilhelm appoints his lawyer friend, Eldus Alderman, to be the new lord of Hillport. His duty is to make the economy prosper and protect its people from the looming threat of darkness caused by their fear of the unknown. Whether that powerful mage who equates with a demigod is dangerous or not is the question. Is he really to be feared, or is it just an illusion he fed to people to make his plan work?

The book delves into various issues related to politics, abuse of power, economic growth, and social justice, which adds a hint of realism to the plot. In contrast, the book also includes some magical elements, such as the power of mages and a world unknown to humanity, such as the Caromentis.

One of the most remarkable aspects of the book is the world-building and characterization. The author takes great care to describe the kingdom and towns, providing a map at the beginning of the book for better visualization. This makes it easy for readers to imagine the world and not lose track of the plot. Additionally, the characterization of each character is well-penned, making it easy to imagine their appearances and morality. The plot is a page-turner, albeit slow, and will keep readers glued to the pages as they hunger for more information on what will happen next. The author also included a glossary of terms at the end of the book, which helps readers understand the story better.

However, the book does have a few shortcomings. The multiple points of view used in the book may confuse readers, making it hard to form a connection with the characters at the beginning. Additionally, the timeline of events in the book is not clear, making it hard to determine whether the events occurred in a traditional or modern setting. Despite these shortcomings, the book deserves a rating of 5 out of 5 stars. The book is free of any errors and is flawlessly edited.

This book is recommended for adults who enjoy fantasy with a hint of realism. The book contains minor profanity and some explicit content, such as pedophilia and grotesque killings. Therefore, this book is unsuitable for young readers.
