Island Games by Caleb J. Boyer was one of the funnest books I have read in a long time. Get ready for an action-filled adventure.

From the first page, you experience excitement and anxiety. The protagonists wake up on an island with fuzzy memories and sand in their mouths, leading to a not-too-great start to the day. The boys have no idea how they got to this island or why they are even there.

Matthew wakes up first and sees his friend lying on the beach further down the shoreline. After checking on Ryan to ensure he is all right, Matthew contemplates what to do next. They decide to look for firewood to start a fire. Following a sleepless night, they swim out to a boat offshore to see if they can find some supplies. Little do they know something is lurking in the depths. From this point on, it is one adventure after the other.

Caleb J. Boyer weaves a tale of adventure using creative imagery, humor, mild fear, and hidden meanings. Obstacles they must overcome teach life lessons to Matthew and Ryan. They learn to adapt and alter their actions to have a different outcome the next time. The boys learn to manage their emotional responses to adverse conditions. The journey eventually leads them to a joyous conclusion, or does it? You will have to read Island Games to find out.

As the boys travel the island, they face many insurmountable challenges. The author is very clever in how he draws comparisons to our own life experiences and challenges. We can fall many times and even get hurt, but Caleb J. Boyer wants you to see it's okay to fail, but you need to get back up and try again.

There are minor undertones of spirituality sprinkled throughout the storyline leading to a spiritual crescendo at the end of the book. Some readers may find the spiritual innuendos off-putting even though it is subtle. Don't let that deter you from reading this book.

I give Island Games a rating of 5 out of 5 stars. This book received a high rating because it was exceptionally written and edited. I would suggest that the intended audience is young adults, but I recommend it for people of all ages and walks of life.

Caleb J. Boyer is a young author with extraordinary talent. I look forward to reading more of his books.
