Review of Always Strive to Be a Better You
We all want the finer things in life. We want a better house, better job, better relationship, better everything. This has been our struggle since time immemorial. Striving for the –er life involves a lot of physical, emotional, and spiritual heavy lifting, but in the end, enjoying the better things in life is all worth it.
Always Strive to Be a Better You is a wonderful motivational book written by Pete Hall. Plato, the greatest philosopher, advises people to try and live a happy, virtuous, and good life. Hall draws from the ancient teachings of Plato to show us how to accomplish our goals and make the world a better place than we found it. Through seven real ordinary people, we get to experience the extraordinary aspects of these people’s lives. Pete Hall gives his readers four tenets, spanning over thirteen key life lessons on achieving a better life. To achieve this, he asks us to look deeper into ourselves, clean up our mistakes, and strengthen our resolve for the fight ahead.
I must mention, I enjoyed this book. Each of the people we read about in this book is very real, and we get to see life through their eyes and live their experiences. I love the author’s subtle touch when he puts their faces in the text. It is refreshing as the reader does not have to deal with faceless characters. In addition, Hall includes a lot of his experiences giving a boost to the lessons he is trying to pass across. Anecdotes make the book more memorable to the reader. Using Greek titles for the four tenets gives Always Strive to Be a Better You a mystical feel. It is as if you are in the presence of Plato himself.
The self-evaluation tools throughout the book help one ‘pause and reflect’ their life actions and test the lessons learned. I loved it when the author gives the reader time to audit themselves. There are myriads of examples when a blank face stares at you and one cannot help but feed theirs in and wonder. The quotes in the book hit home. There is a smooth transition between discussions from one featured person to the other. This prevents any kind of confusion. Always Strive to Be a Better You appears to be exceptionally well-edited as I came across no errors. I am happy to award this book five out of five stars.
This book is suitable for an audience of ambitious go-getters, professionals, students, and odd fellows trying to make their life worth living. This is a must-have book for everyone.
