Soul Keeper by Kaylin McFarren begins as a story about Benjamin Poe a Fire Chief for his small community. He wasn’t loved and in fact, he was hated. The very opposite of what most firemen receive from their communities. Poe is dealing with a lot of pain. The relationship between his family has been hurt and he has to investigate a fire that he believes could have been helped and the responsible person just might be someone close to him. While doing time for murder Ben came up with the weirdest or strangest reason. Having a reason that the judicial system can’t put its hands on allows the readers to visualize a supernatural setting.

Joshua Olmsted was also a citizen of surprises. He was quiet and hard-working. No one would have suspected him of harming anyone. The author uses a link to the unacceptable actions of both men. A demon by the name of Crighton has been soul-searching for the devil and he taunts the two to eventually get their souls to hell. Lastly, the author wrote to give a sense of the two human men portraying the use of grudge-driven emotions to pay the ones responsible back for their losses.

The end of Soul Keeper is where the author demonstrates a great talent for fantasy writing. The final chapters are outstanding. McFarren uses the relationship of humans at the beginning of the book to compare to the demons, angels and the devil’s relationships in the supernatural underworld. Kaylin did a great job displaying their relationship with each other to bring forth other demons, and angels. I rate the book 5 out of 5. The mystery and crime readers would never want to stop reading Soul Keeper. It’s one of the reasons people read books that can allow for the thinking of things that are never to happen. My final input is the book stimulates your imagination.
