However, the family's plans are disrupted when their dad, who is a priest, is assigned to do missionary work in Kenya. As a result, their mom will accompany him, and the children will have to stay with their grandparents on a ranch in California. Mary Grace, who initially felt anxious about the new environment, will soon discover the joys of California.

Despite the circumstances being beyond their control, they take the time to explain and apologize to their children. The book sounds intriguing with excellent character development. As a parent, leaving one's children behind for duty can be challenging, but it was heartening to see that the children made the most of their time, having fun and experiencing adventures. It's also notable that one of the main characters in the book has Down syndrome, which provides an opportunity for children to learn about the disability
