Terms of Service: Subject to Change Without Notice by Craig W. Stanfill is a science fiction work based on a futuristic world. The dystopian society is controlled by a company called The Artificial Intelligence Company, which specializes in the production and training of robots with artificial intelligence, as the name states. The AI dictates everything in the society, including the food they eat, transport routes, and even the pale colors of clothing they have to wear each week.

Kim, the protagonist, is a young trainer who works for an artificial intelligence company. Her life, for the most part, is well structured and comfortable as she gains merit points for good behavior and hopes to rise in her career path. Things become a little disturbing and controversial when she is given a different task at work. After that, things get back to almost normal until a close friend and somewhat troublemaker, Shan, arrives to disrupt the monotone flow of her life. She begins to question all she was made to believe after a rogue journey with Shan, revealing that not all is as it seems with the AIs. As someone who was raised to strictly follow rules, her life makes a spiral as she comes to the understanding that maybe the terms of her service and life, in general, are not entirely in her control.

I liked the outline of the book; Craig Stanfill divided Terms of Service into three essential parts that can be viewed as a reflection of the stages of life we can go through as humans. The first part focuses on Kim’s character development and an overall view of how life in their society works. I found it a bit slow, but going into the second part, the main plot, I saw the need for the explanation. The third part takes you on a journey of self-discovery that increases your curiosity as events unfold and brings deep satisfaction at the end. The story may be fiction, but it is an eye-opener to the things that could happen with the current development of technology in our society.

I found nothing to dislike about the book; the writing is clear and straightforward, the story is engaging and I look forward to reading the next part of the series. Craig did an excellent job of describing how it would feel to live in a world run by AI. I rate the book 5 out of 5 stars. I found no errors while reading, it was professionally edited.

There were scenes with sexual content, drug and alcohol use, implied child abuse, and trauma which can be triggering for some people. I would recommend this book to mature readers who are into sci-fi, particularly in the area of artificial intelligence and a futuristic world ruled by them.
