The cat detectives are at it again in Cat Detectives in the Korean Peninsula, and this time they are on a mission to unite a separated family. It is the eighth book by R.F. Kristi in a series about Inca and her friends. The cat detectives are already renowned for solving many mysteries throughout London. Inca is a curious Siberian cat that oversees the Inca & Company detective agency. The Company includes Fromage, Cara, Monk, Charlotte, Terrance, and Polo. Each of these animals brings their unique flavor to the detective agency. The adventure begins with a trip to South Korea, where Mom will present a new cheese she created at the French patisserie competition instituted by the French cookery school, 'Le Cordon Bleu'. On the way there, the detectives encounter her rival, Enzo, who will stop at nothing to ruin her cheese presentation. He is no match for the detectives, though!

Once Mom, Solo (a friend of Mom's), and the detectives arrive in South Korea, they meet Ye-Jun, their tour guide, who takes them to a villa where they discover a cat painting that raises questions. Inca discovers it is a painting of Bo-Mi, Ji's cat. Ji is Ye-Jun's sister and a participant in the patisserie competition. She has been in North Korea, and Ye-Jun misses her immensely. But it is not just the humans who miss each other; Baram, Ye-Jun's pet dog, desperately misses her friend Bo-Mi too. Inca & Company decide that they must act! But can Inca and the other animal detectives reunite this family again despite the danger they might face?

One thing I liked about this book is the personalities of the cats and other animals. Fromage is my favorite of all the animals due to his attitude, which amused me greatly. I also enjoyed Kristi's writing and the humor woven throughout. I found myself smiling multiple times as I read it. I also appreciated the inclusion of the information regarding the separation of North Korea and South Korea. Before reading this book, I did not know that the demilitarized zone (DMZ) divided the Korean Peninsula and is the barrier zone between North Korea and South Korea. I appreciate that the author includes this information, as it gives the reader insight into the division in the country.

This book was a breeze to read, and I did not find anything I disliked. I did not find any errors, which leads me to believe the book is exceptionally well-edited. It held my attention the entire time and was witty and unique. For these reasons, I give Cat Detectives in the Korean Peninsula five out of five stars. I see no reason to detract a star from my rating because of the enjoyable content and great editing. I believe children will love this book just as I did, especially those who love mysteries and animals! Parents will enjoy reading this book with their children too. After reading this one, I would also read the other books in the series!
