In Cat Detectives in the Korean Peninsula by R.F. Kristi, we meet Inca again as she and her detective gang travel across Korea. Inca has been running her detective company for some time, helping everyone she can, growing her confidence as the best cat detective in England. This is the eighth book in the series, but it can be read as a standalone without a problem.

When Missy is invited to judge a cooking competition in South Korea, Inca and the rest of the gang cannot wait to pack their things and find new adventures and mysteries to solve. But a cooking competition meant to create new relationships between North and South Korea and present new culinary talents will not happen without some problems. During this trip, Inca, Missy, and the rest of the gang meet new friends and will embark on new adventures to help them. But, will Inca be able to help her new Korean friends? Will the competition happen without problems?

I must start by saying that I adored the illustrations, as it is the perfect tool to keep younger readers interested and engaged in the story. I am a fan of Inca. She is such a sassy, brave, and adventurous Siberian cat. Every character is impressive, the personalities match the animal, and they are all incredibly different.

I cannot think of anything negative to say about this book, it is perfect for the age group (9 to 12), and the language is simple yet captivating. It teaches valuable lessons about trust, teamwork, and friendship, as well as knowing the consequences your actions can have before you act. I got to laugh at this book. I became worried as the team faced some risks while trying to complete another mission.

Overall, I rate this book 5 out of 5 stars. Undoubtedly, it is one of the most entertaining children's books I have read. It has been professionally edited, as I did not find errors. The language and the narrative are superb for young children to understand and enjoy. The illustrations are perfectly complete descriptions and are so vivid they perfectly transmit every emotion Inca and her friends feel.

I recommend parents of children between 9 and 12 read this book with them or give it as a gift so they can enjoy it on their own. Depending on their reading abilities, younger children might enjoy it, as the illustrations add to the story. While an adult might finish the book within a couple of hours or in one sitting, this could be a perfect bonding or before-bed activity to share with the family.
