In an attempt to prevent his four sons from working together to usurp the throne from him, the Emperor of Lullabies, a wicked and wise ruler of a mighty nation, gave each of them a chain of lands off the mainland of his empire. These lands became known as the Lands of the Princes. When war broke out in the Lands of the Princes, people who could flee began to. Galen Bray is one of these people, and his destination is Magnum Caelum. What does this place hold for him?

After accusing Lord Orlin, former Lord of Hilport, of being a paedophile, Meldorath is given Lord Orlin's position. However, it is not long before his activities are discovered, and he is arrested. King Wilhelm appoints Eldus as the new Lord of Hilport. The people, however, live in fear; they wonder if Meldorath is indeed dead as they are made to believe. Is Meldorath genuinely dead? Or is there a wicked plot in view?

Matthew Tysz successfully created a fascinating world in his book. This is the first positive aspect of the book. I loved how he provided us with histories of certain places, such as the Lands of the Princes. I initially wondered how the name came about. The book was told from different points of view, and I loved this. It allowed me to understand the thoughts and behaviours of the characters. Matthew did a fantastic job making the characters relatable, and I appreciated how he switched from one character to the next while ensuring that the readers were not confused in any way.

I loved the elements of the supernatural in the book. Magic was undoubtedly an excellent addition and further enhanced the world Matthew built. Some parts of the book were comical; the scene regarding the older man on trial is an example. I loved how the author brought the story together, and I was shocked and thrilled at various instances as I learned more about certain characters. The author provided a map of Voulhire at the beginning of the book and a glossary of terms at the end. Also, the book was suspenseful, and good suspense is the root of any successful thriller.

I found nothing to dislike about the book. It was well-written and contained no errors. I rate the book five out of five stars, as I found no reason to deduct a star. The positive aspects noted above justify my rating of the book. I recommend this book to lovers of fantasy books. If you love books filled with suspense, then this one is for you.
