Wilhelm, King of Voulhire, is seen as a loving and benevolent leader. He is in charge of the cities of Voulhire, which includes Hillport, a city that is still nursing wounds from its two previous lords; Lord Orlin who was killed as rumors of he being a pedophile spread, and Lord Meldorath, who is believed to have been killed by the King for his monstrous deeds involving the death of many, including children. Lord Eldus Alderman is the new lord of the Hillport City and has plans to make the city great, and heal the wounds made by the previous lords. Galen Bray is an immigrant from the Land of the Princes, a land filled with chaos, violence, political strife, and where human life is not respected. Galen is found by Rowan, his late uncle's executor, who becomes more than just an executor to him. Midius Maido, the Chancellor, and Indara, the Vice Chancellor are in charge of the knights. The Chancellor is a check to the King's power. The Riva Rohavi are a group of dancing rebels set to destroy the enviable Voulhire Kingdom.

Would lord Eldus succeed in his quest to develop Hillport city? Is the former Hillport city lord, lord Meldorath really dead? Who is Galen and how will his life as an immigrant in Voulhire turn out? All these answers and more would be found in this exciting novel by Matthew Tysz.

We are Voulhire: A New Arrival under Great Skies by Matthew Tysz is a novel that does not focus on one main character. Instead, there is a narrative for each of the characters or group of characters, such that no matter how different a character's setting is from another character's setting, they are still brought together in harmony under one plot. This novel will make a nice movie, in my opinion, with the way each character develops gradually to fit into the main plot. Each scene, each page, brings the characters deeper into the novel's plot.

This novel blends various themes, including politics, magic, faith, family, friendship, violence, betrayal and sacrifice, in an interesting manner. The author provides a map of Voulhire at the beginning of the novel and this helps the reader have a general view of what Voulhire looks like, the positioning of the cities that would be described in the novel, which helps in better understanding the happenings that follow. In addition, a link for extended reading is provided after the map in the book, where the author provides further explanation on the politics, religion, magic, and cities of the Kingdom of Voulhire, and other themes in the novel. The characters are also introduced at the beginning of the novel, just before the prologue. This gives an insight into the type of novel and plot to expect. The novel also ends with a glossary of the various Voulhirian terms in the book to give the reader a better understanding.

I really enjoyed reading the book, and cannot wait to lay hands on the sequel to this novel. I rate this book five out of five stars, because it was interesting and enjoyable to read. It was also well edited.

I recommend this novel to lovers of science fiction, and also to anyone who loves books on politics, business and leadership. Due to the various scenes of violence and killings, I would recommend this book to a mature audience.
