Donny and Mary Grace's California Adventures by Catherine A. Pepe is a children's book that tells a beautiful tale of resilience and teaches quite a number of lessons to children. A touch of mystery makes it a wonderful read.

Donny and Mary Grace are two siblings born into a Christian family. Little Donny suffers from the disease, Down syndrome. However, this does not make him pessimistic about life. He still sees each day as a wonderful day. Mary is his older sister, and she definitely loves Donny very much. Along the story line, their parents were given a missionary assignment in Kenya by the church, and they have to make the trip. Now, Donny and Mary would have to go live with their grandparents in California. Donny might be excited as always, but Mary isn't so sure. She doesn't want to leave her friends behind. Mary eventually has to move and faces a bully while she trys to adapt to a new environment.

I like the dynamism of character employed by the author. Though disabled, Donny is still a vibrant little boy and excited about moving. Mary, on the other hand, gets angry at the thought of moving. I also loved the catchy cover page used as well as the way the book was divided into chapters with titles to make it an easy read. I did not find any errors, so I'd say the book was professionally edited. I'll rate this book 5 out of 5 stars.

I did not find anything to dislike about this book. As a matter of fact, this book can also be read by teens and adults. I believe they would enjoy the "Grandma Gang" mystery-solving aspect.

I would recommend this book for children and teens, as well as anyone who wants to read an interesting, well-written, and well-plotted book. A wonderful piece of literature.
