[Following is a volunteer review of "We are Voulhire: A New Arrival under Great Skies" by Matthew Tysz.]
Matthew Tysz's sci-fi/fantasy book We are Voulhire: A New Arrival under Great Skieshas 151 pages. This book's plot is fascinating because of the mystical tales it contains and the conspiracies and twists.
The story of the emperor and his sons is told in the first person by Galen Bray as the book's action opens in the Lands of the Princes. Four princes fought one another for dominance in the Land of the Princes for more than 20 years. While some of the novel is written in the third person, Galen's story is told exclusively in the first person. Galen Bray departs the Lands of the Princes for the Kingdom of Voulhire's Magnum Caelum metropolis. After learning that his uncle worked as a blacksmith in Voulhire, he sets off on this adventure. In contrast to the Lands of the Princes, Voulhire is a magnificent land full of success and opportunities. Galen comes to Voulhire and starts settling in with Rowan's assistance. He soon learns that evil, betrayal, and conspiracies lurk under the appearance of greatness, goodness, and prosperity. By reading this book, you will discover what happens in the Kingdom of Voulhire and the role Galen Bray plays in this fantastical nation.
I have to congratulate the author of this book on a job well done. I'm looking forward to reading the subsequent novels in this series now that I've finished the first book. The novel held the reader's attention and had magnificent tense sequences and unexpected turns. Along with the evil that lurked in the shadows, I liked the book's dark magic. I was never bored while reading this book, from the first page to the last. The author created an alternate universe of adventures, incorporating politics, magic, and conflict. Also, I enjoyed how the author kept me wondering; it piqued my interest in the novel. I was also interested in Voulhire's political situation. Usually, I'm not a fan of political stories, but the Voulhire court's political dynamics engrossed me. I was curious to find out who King Wilhelm had as friends who were foes.
There were a few things I disliked about this book. The author should have incorporated chapters to make the book look more structured. Also, Galen had a significant role in the plot; thus, I thought the author should have made him more assertive, resilient, and perhaps even slightly darker.
Most importantly, this book was exceptionally well edited. The narrative was quite realistic, and the author's word choice was excellent. Rowan was my favorite among the many fascinating characters in the novel. I adored his devotion to Galen and how funny he was. I give this book a rating of 5 out of 5 stars because of the fantastic plot. I highly suggest this book to readers who enjoy magical tales.
