E M P Honeymoon by Dorothy May Mercer opens with a discussion of the kind of damage an electromagnetic pulse (EMP) could do to a country, for example, the United States, if it were purposely activated by a hostile regime. In short, it could effectively shut down the entire nation indefinitely, with devastating results.

Kelly Turbulo, the younger sister of Senator Mike McBride, is on her honeymoon in Honduras with her new husband, Tom, when she stumbles upon what appears to be a secret high-tech computer lab in the back of a gift shop. As she realizes that she is looking at the United States power grid on a computer screen, Kelly is discovered but manages to escape. She immediately contacts her brother in Washington, which sets in motion the effort to discover who runs the lab and to protect Kelly and Tom. Several government agencies eventually become involved. This may, in fact, be the first crime/thriller/romance novel that prominently features the newly established United States Space Force.

I loved how the story starts quickly, and the fast-paced action doesn’t ever let up. The characters are well-drawn, and the snappy dialog is clever and funny. Mercer skillfully weaves heart-thumping drama with laugh-out-loud scenes, culminating in a fun and enjoyable reading experience. She wraps it all up neatly in a book that can be devoured in one or two sessions. While E M P Honeymoon is absolutely fine on its own, many of the characters in this book have appeared in past novels by Mercer and pop up like old friends.

There is really nothing that I didn’t like about this novel. While a reader may need to slightly suspend disbelief for a few of the scenes, these actually add, rather than distract, from the overall enjoyment of the book.

I happily give E M P Honeymoon five out of five stars. The book was perfectly edited, with no typos or grammatical errors. The profanity is slight, and the sexy parts are so minimal that you need not be afraid to leave it around for your twelve-year-old to find. I recommend this book to anyone who is looking for a light and fun novel. This is the perfect book for a vacation, even if it’s just in your own backyard for an afternoon or two.

I like the way you describe this book, it is full of fiction and seems very interesting.
I like the action it promises and I think it's funny that I know in the middle of their honeymoon. Thanks for your review.
