Review of A Dream For Peace

[Following is a volunteer review of "A Dream For Peace" by Dr. Ghoulem Berrah.]
Many people know that peace does not come easily. Peace comes by the edge of the sword and freedom, from pain, wants and slavery exacts an outrageous price for both sides embroiled in the struggle. For Dr. Ghoulem Berrah, this is not a new lesson. This is the wisdom of the old, the wisdom of his ancestors. Born in French-occupied Algeria, he grows up learning his and his oppressors’ language, ways, and customs. Without understanding the French language, his mother strictly pushes him to excel in his studies. Berrah soon goes off to the French mainland to pursue higher studies. The independence bug bit him, and he soon became involved in student and country politics, which displeased local and colonial authorities. His activities do not stop in France; he takes his fight back home, well, near home, in Morocco, to try to free them from colonialism. Unbounded by geopolitics and international tensions, Dr. Ghoulem Berrah makes it his number one mission to promote peace in the world.
I appreciate that many great people in history have the humblest of beginnings. Dr. Berrah starts life, loved by his mother, taken care of by his extended family, and even scolded by his teacher for his unwittingly naughty self. This, beyond any doubt, proves that this extraordinary human being was just like you and me. In his pursuit of peace, he traveled all over the world advancing his education, improving diplomatic relations, learning new cultures, and reinforcing his religious convictions. Interestingly, Dr. Berrah is a Jack of all trades and a master of all of them, too. He is a gifted military doctor, an enthusiastic scientist, a distinguished diplomat, and a fine friend. He quickly becomes a trusted confidant of many of the world leaders of his time. This decorated diplomat also partakes in trying to restore peace between the Arabs and Palestinians.
A Dream For Peace does not warrant any negative reactions to it, as it is a wholesome autobiography. This book is a testament to this man’s extraordinary life mission to keep peace alive. The book has a lot of comic relief scenes that take away some of the serious edges in this story. Some horrid scenes are associated with war and death which may be offputting to some readers. Other than that tiny detail, this book is a worthwhile read. I found the author’s religious tolerance and hope for the most beautiful aspect of this book and Dr. Berrah’s life.
This book appears to be exceptionally well-edited as I came across no errors. I believe the book is worth a rating of five out of five stars.
I recommend this book to an audience of history lovers and peace-loving individuals.
