Will You Talk to Me? is a children’s book by Margie Carstens. The book stars a little girl who is looking out her bedroom window onto the ocean one day and captures her sights on this hummingbird. Stunned by this bird's beauty, confidence, and courageousness, this little girl wants to know how this hummingbird learned to embody these attributes. The story delves into the hummingbird's wise words of wisdom that it shares with the little girl about being the best version of yourself through building confidence, being kind to others, and having a positive outlook on life.

I admire authors that write books that not only entertain their young readers but inform and educate them through animation. Margie Carstens displayed in this read how both elements can be executed correctly. Many gems are being dropped by the hummingbird. “Your confidence is within yourself. You have to understand this first and foremost” is a powerful quote by the hummingbird to the little girl. I believe every child should build confidence early in their life. The little girl has experienced her form of bullying from her peers that the hummingbird's expertise can help her out with.

I implore parents of elementary-aged kids to buy this quick read for their children. I’m a huge advocate of mentally healthy kids and this book is a great start for parents who want to build their confidence and let them know they can be and do anything they put their mind to.

Aesthetically, I’m in love with this book. The illustrations are beautifully drawn—you can tell a professional cartoonist did it. The little girl loves the ocean and all of its beauty and it shows in the starfish she has in her hair and the shell necklace she wears around her neck. The scenery of this quaint town surrounded by palm trees and an ocean filled with dolphins, whales, and seals is just a dreamy sight to behold.

I found only one syntax error in this professionally-edited book. It did not distract me from enjoying this story’s essential messages. The author did a superb job of conveying a serious topic to kids so that they can comprehend them. Also, there are many facts about hummingbirds that are sprinkled throughout the book that are both fun and educational. I found nothing I disliked about this book. It’s my honor to give Will You Talk to Me? 5 out of 5 stars.
