Snatched Up To Heaven for Kids

Snatched Up to Heaven for Kids by Jemima and Arvind Paul is a 35-page, Christian book for young children with bright, cheerful illustrations and a warm, reassuring tone. It tells the story of Emma, eight, who lives with her six-year-old sister Bella, their adoring parents, and their infant sister. They live in a cozy little house and want nothing. Their parents make sure to teach the girls about God and his love for them and read to them every night from the Bible.

One morning, Emma wakes after having had the most wonderful dream. Her parents come to her bedside to listen and Bella sits up in her bed excited to hear all about it.

Emma tells about angels that came in the night and carried her and Bella up, through the clouds, to Heaven. She tells them how beautiful everything was and that she even got to meet Jesus. Her family is very excited for her and her father tells her how special the dream is and that God must have shown her Heaven so she’d know the importance of following His word so she’ll be sure to get there. She also imagines that God might want her to tell other people about Heaven, so they’ll want to get there too.

Before bedtime, the family reads from the Bible as always and Emma prays that God will take her up to Heaven in her dreams again. Her prayers are soon answered and in fact, Emma visits Heaven several more times with Bella. Each morning she shares new marvels with her family, with her parents there to guide her and help her understand what she’s seen, always referring to the Bible for clarity.

The Bible passages that appear here and there throughout the book are referenced at the bottom of the page.

Emma’s little sister Bella is always with her in her dreams although she does not in fact go to Heaven with her or share the dream. I like this because her questions are our questions and we learn as she learns what it was like in Heaven.

Snatched Up to Heaven for Kids is a warm and charming way to provide a gentle exploration of a wide range of Christian topics for younger children. It even touches on Hell in a way that instructs without frightening.

I found this book to be well-written and without editorial flaws. And I think Jemima and Arvind Paul have tailored the subject matter to their intended audience beautifully. I would rate it four out of four: excellent, amazing. I would rate it 4 out of 5: very good, above average.
