[Following is a volunteer review of "Strong Heart" by Charlie Sheldon.]
Strong Heart by Charlie Sheldon is the first book in a three-book series. It is an adventure tale that includes Native American characters and their deep history. There are different themes throughout the book such as courage, family, justice, and survival. The power of nature and ancestry are also vitally important in this story. The author seems to possess a lot of knowledge about the outdoors and the various locations mentioned. It is well-researched and helps capture the struggles of being a teenage girl.
This is a coming-of-age story that incorporates mysterious elements. I enjoyed every bit of this book and there is nothing I would really change about it. It was remarkable to see all of the anthropology references, especially because that was my major in college. Those who like science, animals, and history would definitely be interested in this book. The narration also improves the story a lot and makes it more interesting. By the time you finish the book, you care about the characters and will want to see what happens next in the series. Lastly, I did not find any grammatical errors in the book. The editing seems very professional overall.
I am rating Strong Heart by Charlie Sheldon 5 out of 5 stars. It is a well-written story, and I had a lot of fun reading it. It helped me understand more about Native American people and the issues they face. The elements of a family sticking together were nice to see as well. The struggles that the characters face seemed very real and relatable. The twists in the book were a pleasant surprise too. Some of the scientific words might be confusing for young readers but everything is explained well in the book. In conclusion, I recommend this book to all adventure and nature lovers.
