Voulhire's citizens are going to discover a hard lesson: Evil cannot be restrained for very long. The first volume of a continuing fantasy series is titled We are Voulhire: A New Arrival under Great Skies by Matthew Tysz.

The ordinary people and rulers of the nation of Voulhire live in fear of an adversary so dreadful that he keeps them up at night in a world where magic, science, and religion have no power differential. The most powerful known wizard of their time, Dalahei Meldorath, is their main adversary. He bides his time while Voulhire's nobility is consumed by ambition and other opponents of the kingdom's prosperity emerge from their wasteland. What unspeakable horror is in store for the citizens of Voulhire? Learn more in this captivating narrative.

The typeface employed in the book was the first thing that caught my attention. I have to confess that it made reading the narrative enjoyable and simple.

The author did a fantastic job describing the action sequences so that I could see what was happening clearly in my mind. The book's intricate world-building was another aspect I appreciated; from the history to the allocation of power and resources, the author transported me to another globe (almost literally) and introduced me to a different way of life. The characters had complex personalities and were all well-rounded.

There were a couple of things I did not like. One of them is the way the storyline drags on in the middle of the book with sequences that I thought superfluous. As I went through the novel, it seemed to have a lot of moving elements at various points, which left many issues unresolved and provided little room for the type of character development I was eagerly anticipating. Despite all of my unstated concerns, I still liked the book.

I might also add that if not for the glossary and the external connections to his website for more investigation, I would have finished this book with a lot more unresolved questions. I give it a 5 out of 5. The negatives I encountered weren't enough for me to subtract a star.

Four stars out of four is what I'd give this book. The few action parts in the narrative were gratifying enough, and it was truly amazing (no pun intended). I should also note that the book was beautifully edited because I found no flaws.
