[Following is a volunteer review of "Man Mission" by Eytan Uliel.]
Man Mission: Four Men, Fifteen Years, One Epic Journey by Eytan Uliel depicts a man's transformational journey and his eventual self-discovery as he sets off on international excursions with his close friends. Sonny, a character who is motivated by a desire to discover the wonders of the world, is at the center of the story. The plot opens with Sonny and Sam, two other students, having a disastrous run-in on campus. A strong connection between the two develops as they both come to appreciate Sonny's passion for exploration. Three years later, Sam convinces Sonny to go on a tour, starting their thrilling adventures through New Zealand's picturesque Harper's Pass Trail. Sonny's tight friendship with Alec and Daniel, two other friends, deepens as they travel together. Destiny brings Sonny and Rachel together along the way, and their relationship develops over the course of four months before he presents her to his friends. Sonny and Sam joyfully recount their New Zealand adventures to their other friends, who are then cordially invited to travel with them on their next adventure. Readers are left wondering an intriguing topic as the story progresses: Will the friends agree to go on another adventure despite the uncomfortable circumstances of their previous journey stirring up apprehension?
One aspect that particularly resonated with me was the book's emphasis on the characters' pursuit of happiness. While reading, I found myself envisioning the beauty of life when unburdened by stress and anxiety and instead devoting ourselves to our passions. Through the characters' pursuits such as kayaking, trekking, canoeing, and exploring diverse locales, they demonstrated how one can overcome stress and relish the thrill of adventure.
The characters' bond was quite endearing. It's admirable and precious that they have managed to maintain their enduring relationship over the years. Their willingness to accept brand-new friends, which was seen when they enthusiastically welcomed Sam into their group, was equally impressive. Sam and the narrator's enjoyable time together at a food market perfectly encapsulated the true meaning of friendship. The ease with which they complete the assignments as a team, consistently coming to mutually beneficial conclusions and exchanging deeply personal views, speaks volumes about the strength of their bond. The novel is a tribute to the value of sincere friendships built on honesty and trust.
I disliked nothing about this book. I was completely absorbed because the suspense and tension were maintained. The author's inclusion of the characters' backstories gave them depth and made it easier to comprehend their motivations. I must compliment the book's flawless editing because I was unable to detect any mistakes that may have ruined the reading pleasure. I give the book a rating of 5 out of 5 stars because it is perfect and I can't think of any arguments against it.
I recommend this book to my fellow readers who enjoy reading travel and adventure books. Men should read this book as well because it can help them relax and provide them with ideas for having fun. Join these lovable individuals as they set out on their exciting international adventures.
