Audibooks.com is an audible book service that provides customers with easy access to thousands of titles for a monthly subscription of $14.99. The subscription comes with one book credit a month, which essentially allows the customer to pick out an audio book from the massive library. More credits can be bought through the website or using their app feature InstaCredit if one book a month isn’t enough. Signing up is incredibly easy and only takes a few minutes, although it does require adding a payment method right from the get-go. The website itself is very clean and easy to navigate. Customers can browse books by genre or book lists such as New Arrivals, Staff Picks, As Seen on TV, and more.
Audiobooks.com is available straight from your computer, Mac, or as an app through your smart phone or tablet. The app is available for both iPhones and Androids. I tested out the Android app and found it was just as easy to navigate as the website and has all the same features. I was very pleased that my progress was always saved when switching between PC and my phone. One of my favorite features is that you can either rewind or skip forward by 30 seconds, just in case you lose your place. It also tells you your progress and how much time you have left in your book.
If you want to try out audiobooks.com without any commitment, there is a free 30-day trial that comes with one book credit. I picked out “A Darker Shade of Magic” by V.E. Schwab. As this was my first time listening to an audio book, I found it a little hard to follow along at first. I started painting as I was listening and it definitely helped with my focus. The narrator was pleasant enough, but I found myself annoyed with some of the character’s personalities because of the voice he’d use for them. Maybe I would have felt differently about them had I been able to voice them as I do when I read to myself. There are definitely some pros and cons of audio books, but in regards to the service at Audiobooks.com I didn’t find much fault.
I haven’t found much in the way of special offers, but the website does have a sale section where you can buy titles for just $7. I browsed through the sale and found a few books I would definitely pick up, but the selection wasn’t very big. I definitely feel like listening to audio books could definitely be pricey. Especially if you wanted to listen to more than a few books a month, unless you only picked up titles from the sale section.
Overall I would rate audiobooks.com 3 out of 4 stars. They have great selection and books are easy to find, especially with their save for later feature. Both the website and the apps are easy to use. Pricing is reasonable depending on how many audio books you plan on listening to per month. I plan on trying out Audible.com before deciding on which subscription is the best for me, but I was definitely pleased with this trial.
