[Following is a volunteer review of "Donny and Mary Grace's California Adventures" by Catherine A. Pepe.]
Every youngster and reader will benefit from reading this book in terms of increasing their moral awareness. I'm delighted the author portrayed in this book that most societal concerns should be addressed during a child's formative years. Regardless of the person's age, stigmatization, bullying, stealing, and other issues should be discouraged. Donny and Mary Grace's California Adventures by Catherine A. Pepe show the tenacity of parents with kids who need particular care, attention, and needs.
Mary Grace entered the house after swimming and immediately felt something was off. She soon found out that her parents, Mr. and Mrs. Miller, had been given a missionary assignment in the Episcopal Church of Africa by the bishop. After this occurrence, Mary Grace and her brother, Donny, who had Down syndrome, would spend the following two years living with their grandparents in California. Would they experience sadness, or would they have an adventure?
I liked how the author avoided using unclear language in her phrases. This allowed readers to understand the book's overall premise. The author's content was crystal clear and easy to understand because of the writing style. Children will develop their instincts to manage environmental issues by reading this book. I found no errors in this book. Thus, the editing was excellent.
The absence of any visual graphics was the only thing I found disappointing about this book. This is because, as is typical with children, children's books must include pictures to maintain their interest and attention. If this book had included beautiful illustrations, particularly of the zoo creatures, it would have been fantastic, as kids could become more attentive when reading.
The problems mentioned above did not, however, affect how I understood this work as a grownup. I give this book five out of five stars since it was so fantastic. I advise kids to read this book. All readers who enjoy children's literature, as well as educators of young children, will find this book worthwhile.
