[Following is a volunteer review of "Looking Glass Friends" by E L Neve.]
Looking Glass Friends is a timeless romance that walks you through the perspective of a set of twin flame lovers and their families. To know that this novel is based on real love letters is an astonishing thing. It takes you on a journey from the beginning as strangers brought together by a book, find that they are the twins of each other’s soul. It not only reads from Ellie and Neil point of view, but it also gives the reader a look at how the emails and phones calls of the lovers affect their spouses and Ellie’s five-year-old son.
The detail and poetry used to pull you into another’s life is captivating and had me feeling as though I was there reading the emails and watching the love between Neil and Ellie unfold. The ups and downs in all relationships involved, the shocking discovery that Ellie makes concerning her husband’s loyalty to her, the growth of Niel’s wife, and finally the conclusion of the two friends finding out where this newfound love for each other will lead them in life, they will have you biting your nails, holding your breath, and sighing in awe.
I give this book a five out of five. I loved the extra layer of romance the poetry added. The flow of strangers, to friends, to soulmates draws you in and holds you hostage. It has no profanity and only one mild sexual encounter near the end. It opens your eyes to the concept of marriage, love and soul mates. Did Ellie marry for the right reasons? What to do if you find your Looking Glass Friend? Should you stay in a marriage when the love you thought you had has gone? These are a few of the conflicts and questions broached in Looking Glass Friends, by E. L. Neve.
