As part of the A Grandma Gang Mystery series, the book follows Donny and Mary Grace, whose parents must go to Africa for church work, leading the children to stay with their grandparents in California. While Donny is excited about the change, Mary Grace is reluctant and worries about leaving her friends behind. The story delves into how the siblings adapt to their new life and meet new friends.
