Review of The Date Farm

[Following is a volunteer review of "The Date Farm" by Jack Winnick.]
Jack Winnick’s The Date Farm: Lara and Uri: Book 4 is a well-written novel about two government agents who are set on a mission to defeat Middle Eastern terrorists and reclaim what they have stolen. The storyline begins in the United States as a series of attacks occur, and the action follows two married government agents across the world as they attempt to recover what the country has lost, as well as sufficiently punish the culprits for their crimes. The story features action, thrill, and a complex mixture of storylines that lend to an engaging read. The inclusion of multiple perspectives allow for the story to have shocking reveals and thrilling cliffhangers.
This book is a great read for anyone who is interested in action, crime, and political fiction. It is appropriate for all ages, as the sexual content and profanity are limited. It is also clear that Winnick is well-researched in terms of military, political, and naval pursuits as well as Middle Eastern culture and the Islamic religion. The sheer amount of detail in the story is captivating and well-edited, so sophisticated readers would be pleased with this work. Additionally, although this book is a part of a series, it is easy to follow without reading the other books in the series and works well as a stand-alone work.
The primary drawback of this story is a lack of emotional appeal. The novel is a pulse-racing thriller that will engage readers but there is very limited emotional connection with the characters. Readers who are interested in the pathos of certain types of fiction may be advised to skip over this piece. Aside from this small issue, I found the book appealing, exciting, and well-written. Therefore, I would rate it four out of five stars for its charm and the excellent imagery and diction, while taking into account the lack of emotional depth.
