Review of We are Voulhire: A New Arrival under Great Skies

[Following is a volunteer review of "We are Voulhire: A New Arrival under Great Skies" by Matthew Tysz.]
Matthew Tysz's novel We are Voulhire: A New Arrival under Great Skies details the tale of Galen Bray, a young man from the Land of Princes, which was beset by terrible battles and misery. He boarded a ship to Magnum Caelum, a city in the Kingdom of Voulhire, where he was to meet and inherit his dying uncle's belongings. When he arrived in Magnum Caelum, he met Rowan, his uncle's executor. Rowan assisted him in taking possession of the appropriate assets and even went so far as to teach him everything he needed to run his uncle's firm. King Wilhelm of Voulhire, on the other hand, is a man who, out of fear of being toppled, betrays friendship and is prepared to sacrifice lives to hide his deception. He is a monarch who is disturbed by his rivalry with Midius Maido, chancellor of the Mianoran Council, for political dominance. Eldus Alderman, a former judge who rose to the position of Lord of Hillport, must now figure out how to maximize the town's potential while eradicating its residents' memories of past terror. Can he do that while protecting the town, even though he has to tell them lies?
I adore Rowan's personality, wonderful sense of humor, wild spirit, and good nature. He didn't have to help Galen to a large extent because his employer was no longer alive and he had been compensated for his work, yet he went to great lengths to ensure Galen got all the information he needed.
Lord Meldorath was made to seem mysterious and terrifying. As each occurrence was described, it added mystery and excitement to the narrative, which I initially appreciated. However, as the plot developed, I grew restless to learn how each component, especially Galen's, would come together. There seems to be so much mystery surrounding the Kingdom of Voulhire, its neighboring kingdoms, and the magical cosmos of Caromentis that has yet to be revealed.
The map came in handy for locating Voulhire cities and tracking Galen and Rowan's routes. I could grasp some of the phrases and names of people described in the glossary at the conclusion of the book, which was also very helpful. The book included some scenes of fighting and murder, and these added to my enjoyment of the narrative.
Nothing about the book bothered me. I discovered no errors, which indicates excellent editing. Considering these, I rate it 5 out of 5 stars. I'll recommend it to mature teenagers who enjoy reading stories about mystery, suspense, and magic.
