Review of Reconfigurement

[Following is a volunteer review of "Reconfigurement" by E. Alan Fleischauer.]
With Reconfigurement, E. Alan Fleischauer's goal is to give people, especially those in or near retirement age, the tools to have an easier and more fulfilling retirement. To prepare for retirement that factors in the changing needs of retirees in our changing society. He aims to do so in a way that, as he stated in the book, addresses both the left and right brain with stories and facts and figures.
In my opinion, this book achieved that and more.
It has the right balance. The language isnt too formal or too informal -- it's just the right mix. It is not too casual or too intimidating. It also has a lot of useful information and resources, but they can be a little bit tedious and boring if not broken up. Thankfully, it's interspersed with stories and jokes that break the information overload. Don't even get me started on the puns!
These puns and jokes establish the voice Fleischauer has in this book: the fun grandpa who loves to give you sage advice in between stories and jokes. He laid out lots of options and are honest about whether they are helpful or not, with regards to the career assessment chapter. He also explains different kinds of investments and insurance policies and their pros and cons.
Even if it's mainly about financial advice and about retirement, Reconfigurement also reminded me of something people, no matter how young or old, should always keep in mind. There's no one set path for any person. It's always of their own choosing - to stay on that path even if they dont like it, or have the courage to leap out of it and start a new one.
All in all, this book made me think more about how I’ll prepare for my twilight years, even if it’s still far down the road. I’m still young, but I feel like there’s no such thing as ‘too early’ when preparing for retirement. 5 stars out of 5.
