Addressing Systemic Discrimination by Reframing the Problem by Dr. Frank Douglas is a book that explores the concept of systemic discrimination and proposes a new way to address it. The book argues that traditional approaches to addressing systemic discrimination, such as diversity, equity, and inclusion (DEI), have been ineffective because they focus on the individual rather than the system.

The book is divided into two parts. The first part introduces the concepts of systemic discrimination, EIIE, and the Safe Haven Dialogues (SHD) reframing process. The second part presents a case series of individuals who have experienced systemic discrimination. The SHD Reframing Process is then used to objectively determine the aspects of systemic discrimination that are depicted in these cases.

Dr. Douglas proposes a new approach called Equity, Inclusion, and Individual Engagement (EIIE). EIIE focuses on creating a culture of psychological safety where everyone feels comfortable speaking up about discrimination. It also emphasizes the importance of individual engagement in addressing systemic discrimination.

I find the book really interesting because of its focus on the importance of creating a culture of psychological safety where everyone feels comfortable speaking up about discrimination. This is essential for addressing systemic discrimination, as it allows people to share their experiences and insights without fear of retaliation.
The book also provides a helpful roadmap for organizations that want to implement EIIE. This includes steps such as creating a clear vision for EIIE, developing policies and procedures that support EIIE, and providing training to employees on EIIE.

Relying on the foregoing, I will give this book a rating of 5 out of 5 stars, considering its relevance in the fight against systemic discrimination. Moreso, the book was exceptionally edited, and I found no errors in it. Personally, I have no criticism of this book. I will recommend it to anyone who is interested in learning more about systemic discrimination and how to address it.
