[Following is a volunteer review of "Snatched Up to Heaven for Kids" by Jemima Paul, Arvind Paul.]
The book SNATCHED UP To HEAVEN by Jemima Paul and Arvind Paul is a well-illustrated biblical story book for children. The book is entertaining at the same time, didactic in nature. The author through a simple and comprehensible language puts forward biblical teachings of heaven and hell.
The story begins with Emma, an eight year old girl waking up from her dream of heaven. Emma dreams of visiting heaven with her little sister Bella. She wakes up excitedly and shares her fascinating dreams with her parents and her sister Bella. In her dream she sees Heaven, Jesus, God, Angels and even a scary hell. It is commendable that her parents acknowledge her account and validate it by referring to bible verses as well as encourage her to understand its significance. This follows by a series of dreamscapes that Emma experiences. Whether these narratives of her dreams are her imagination or a subconscious expression of her Christian upbringing it is up to us to believe. Children with their unadulterated souls and their minds like an empty canvas are ready to receive any picture that we the adults draw on it. Here in the story Emma grows in a loving family and a good christian environment. Hence the dreams and the connection with the biblical stories.
The book cover is attractive and relevant, the pictorial illustrations are captivating for children. It's not repetitive and the fact that its 35 pages makes a quick and enjoyable read, perfect for the short attention span of children.
As the book is an attempt to familiarise children with christian teaching. It would serve as a best choice for a Sunday school or a christian family library. The author has done a great job in illustrating the concept of heaven and hell through a kid's point of view. The moral tone in the book has a lesson of “reward” for both good as well as bad acts which can help develop a sense of responsibility towards one's action.
I would gladly rate Snatched up to Heave a four out of four because of its simplicity and colorful illustrations. It's a perfect bedtime read for kids aged 4-10 years and a must have for a Church library.
