In the fiction based novel, Infected, by James Schannep, you get to navigate this zombie adventure by deciding which move you would chose next.
In this click your poison book, the reader gets to make the decisions. It all starts with a wonderful new anti-aging therapy, and how it progresses is up to you.
This was a easy, quick read. All of the different choices that led to new exciting circumstances provided many variating story lines. With the rise of zombie stories, this gives fans a chance to make the decision to change the character's thoughts, actions and outcomes. The reader doesn’t have to wonder what they would have done differently if the they themselves were the characters. Infected is a great example of how one small decision can have a huge impact on any given situation. It puts the story in the hands of the reader and offers many different progressions in the story.
I enjoyed the ability to alter the story by choosing a different option. Sometimes I started the book over and changed one small thing to see the results and other times I would change just the last decision and see if that was enough to give me the out come I wanted. Each variation of the book was just enough to make it different than the one before. This book provides short, straight to the point chapters, each providing just enough information to give the reader a choice to make.
Infected is a great book for readers who may need a faster paced read or for the readers who need a break from the normal reading routine. This book would be great for the young adult readers who enjoy zombie stories but also would enjoy being able to guide the story themselves. This would also be a great family read, although there is some gore associated with zombies in general, it isn’t overly descriptive in the gore.
The only downside I saw in this book was that the chapters and some of the information each chapter provided seemed a bit basic for an advanced reader. The vocabulary and ideas were fun tho not a challenge to comprehend. It wasn’t something I would normally continue to read on my own but would read with my kids. I would recommend this book to a young adult reader. I would give this book a 2 out of 4 stars.
