Dodged Bullets A Short Story by Lynn Sutton is a short fiction story containing elements of contemporary romance targeted for the young adult audience.

The story is about a girl named Olivia Reed who is being stalked by some sort of killer and is trying to fight for her life. The book grasped my attention from the first page. I really connected with Olivia and was able to experience every emotion she was feeling. The author did an amazing job taking the reader with Olivia on this frightful incident. The whole time I was reading the story, I could feel what she felt, I was on my toes throughout the story.

I became so attached to Olivia’s character. Sutton made her someone so relatable, I personally felt so connected to her because I saw myself in her. Someone who lived an average life, wore glasses, stayed at home while in University. She then decided to live more excitingly and it backfired on her. It’s amazing how her character sounds exactly like me.

I loved the fact that the story was so suspenseful, the men in her life have all betrayed her and abandoned her and you can’t tell if you can trust any of them. While engrossed into the book, I was very skeptical of Joe Foster all I was thinking is “who is this guy?” “can she trust him?” “Is he trying to kill her?”. I loved the fact that the author kept us guessing who the killer is and why he or she is hunting her.

I really enjoyed reading this story because it contains elements of romance, suspense and mystery. What I wished from this book was a longer ending, I felt it was kind of rushed and would have loved to read a little bit more. A particular scene I really loved in the book was the beginning where the author vividly describes the fear and pain Olivia was feeling in the forest when she was being hunted.

Overall I give this book a 4 out of 4 stars because it was very well written. It hooked me from the get go and I could not put it down. I was so disappointed when it ended because I wanted more. I became so attached to the characters in such a short time I was shocked, but Sutton really surprised me with this and I’m really impressed. I honestly recommend this book to everyone, especially if you are a fan of mystery, heartache, romance and suspense.
