[Following is a volunteer review of "Unicorns Know Magic" by Charles Adkins.]
A group of unicorns identified as Abby, Georgia, Chase, and Bitsy just flew onto Earth from the moon. The flight enthralled two human kids sitting close by. Soon, the unicorns and the kids embarked on international tours, visiting places like Paris, where they were served croissants and had the opportunity to learn French words like "bonjour" and "oui." Other adventures followed this tour, and in all these, the two creatures came to gain a deeper understanding and appreciation of their uniqueness and abilities.
"Unicorns Know Magic" is a children's story written by Charles T. Adkins. The work is illustrated by Ros Webb. Both of them did remarkably well at giving the story an intriguing, magical touch. I was entertained reading the kids' interactions with the unicorns, and when things weren't so good along the way, like the incident during luncheon, I did feel good to know the kids' level of tolerance for others' shortcomings.
The story offers readers the opportunity to learn about unicorns, like the various places they live, the magical things they do, and the unique abilities each is endowed with. I cherished the bond that existed between the kids and the unicorns, and the idea of humans and unicorns enjoying stories while watching the sparks of marshmallows was just phenomenal. Ideas like this affirm my belief that all of nature finds fulfillment in one another.
I enjoyed the rhymes in the story; they make the whole thing fun and engaging. I also observed that while treating readers to the unicorn story, Adkins also teaches children such essential lessons as proper nutrition, which I appreciated. The book was thoroughly edited; there were no grammatical errors in it. Overall, I had a great time reading this book. There is no complaint to make, and I currently can't think of any aspects that could be improved.
I have decided to give this book 5 out of 5 stars for its intriguing storyline, learning opportunities, and exceptional editing. I don't have any reason to deduct any stars from the rating. Readers aged three to nine should find "Unicorns Know Magic" an entertaining and informative read.
