We are Voulhire: A New Arrival Under Great Skies written by Matthew Tysz is the first novel in an epic fantasy series. The story will take the reader on a journey through the multiverse and the fictional land of Voulhire. The main character, Galen Bray, is a young refugee from the Land of the Princes who embarks on a journey to the kingdom of Voulhire to succeed after his great uncle’s forge. Galen is given an opportunity to live a better life in the kingdom of Voulhire.

Overall, I really enjoyed the book. I thought the storyline seemed very original and creative. I will say that the beginning of the story was more of a slow burn since the author had to discuss several world-building and character-building aspects of the storyline. I enjoyed the slow buildup because it allowed me to have a stronger understanding of the world and all of the characters. The book also ended with a very exciting ending that made me want to immediately jump into the next book. I also liked that even though the story was very detailed, it was a short read.

The only thing that I did not like about the book was the vast number of other characters’ points of view and subplots within the storyline. This made me struggle to deeply connect with and relate to the main characters at times. It also may be difficult for non-native English readers to understand the modern and medieval languages that the author chose to incorporate into the story.

I rate this book five out of five stars for all of the reasons I mentioned above. I look forward to reading the rest of the series next. The book does contain mild scenes of child abuse and occasional mild profanity. There are no scenes within the book that could be considered explicit and unsuitable for children. I noticed no grammatical errors or typos, a testament to the exceptional editing done to the book.

I would recommend this book to any readers interested in fantasy. I would recommend this book to readers who are at a more advanced level since it contains modern and medieval languages that may be difficult for lower-level readers to comprehend.
