[Following is a volunteer review of "Beyond the Bowling Ball Bombing" by Kordel Lentine.]
Beyond the Bowling Ball Bombing by Kordel Lentine follows Terrance Brown as he transforms from a bullied nobody, into an overnight sensation, all because a bowling ball fell from the sky. Little did Terrance know; that the bowling ball wasn’t going to be the craziest thing that would happen to him in the coming months. It continues with a mysterious and omniscient puzzle box, that indicates it knows exactly when Terrance will solve it. The bowling ball and the puzzle box were just the start of what Terrance’s future may have in store, in fact, his own future is explored when Terrance meets the man behind the bowling ball, Stanley. What started as a miscalculation, turned into an inspiration for time travel, all because of Terrance Brown.
I felt as though this book took a little bit for me to get into it. It was sort of a slow build, with little suspense at first. But aside from the slow start, I can’t find another negative.
Now, on the other hand, once this book picked up speed, it was almost impossible to put it down. Especially from about 70% complete onward. There was such a desire to know what was going to happen with the next trip Terrance would take to meet with Stanley. I loved the all-knowing Stanley and the dead time that he was creating. How Stanley seems to be all-knowing is comically simple, but also not. I know that is super vague, but trust me, you will want to read to find out what I mean. Your mind will try to comprehend what is happening and how it can happen, but it won’t make sense until later.
This book gets 5 out of 5 from me. The suspense, the buildup, the mystery, and the science fiction all combine so excellently that you don’t want the book to end. It’s exceptionally well edited, leading me to find no spelling or grammar errors. I can’t find a thing that I would change, even the slow start was a necessity to develop Terrance and his backstory. Well done to Kordel, even your closing remarks were intriguing to read.
This book would be great for anyone from age 15 on up. I say this because I didn’t find any vulgar language, and there was no sexual content. This could lead the book to be enjoyed younger than 15, but I felt as though it would be harder for them to grasp certain concepts below that age. There seems to be no maximum age, and even though it centers around high school students, it is absolutely a book that anyone can enjoy. Now, one should enjoy science fiction and the exploration of time travel. Although, I would argue that even if you don’t tend to favor those topics, you will find yourself intrigued and enjoying this book.
