Niching Up by Chris Dreyer is a nonfiction book talks about one specific aspect of marketing - Niching up! The book addresses the topic to the point and is a decent introductory read for anyone who wants to understand the mechanism that goes around niching in a particular field.

Chris does a good job of highlighting and giving an overview of niching while also covering the merits and demerits of niching in a particular field. He derives examples from his own as well as the experiences of others to make the topic more relatable while highlighting the merits that come with it. I have rated the book a 3 out of 4 because it is an easy-to-read book addressing a concept that is becoming popular in the field of business and marketing alike. The way the author has used the example of his own business as a case study helps gain perspective of the topic. He has also mentioned informative examples of follow-up reads that a person can use as a referral in case they want to understand things in depth. Anyone who wants to get familiar with the concept can use this book as a solid starting point.

The reason I did not rate it a four on four is because I did not particularly like that the author first addressed the demerits as opposed to the merits at the beginning itself. There were also A LOT of metaphors and examples used throughout the book that can be considered mainstream but weren't particularly necessary or helpful in the context of the topic.

Overall, the book offers valuable insights that were both applicable and informative. And since it is a short read, you can get a good amount of quality information by investing a short amount of time.

I wish that I had seen a book that discussed the downsides of using a niche platform when I was first starting my business. Thanks!
