[Following is a volunteer review of "Why God Allows Evil and Suffering" by Sine Nomine.]
Whenever I come across an injustice, I try to imagine myself in it, and it makes me wince. I try to think that evil exists so that we can recognize true love and kindness. Why God Allows Evil and Suffering by Sine Nomine will explain the reason behind pain and suffering, but first, it breaks down what the purpose of life is.
One of the most valuable insights I got from this book was about the purpose of life. Thus, the reason we work, study, and worry about money is to get a better life and be happy. It all comes down to being truly loved. It is so easy to forget about it when we get caught up in everyday issues that have little impact.
Faith is not easy to attain. I have seen devoted people who lost faith when they were facing strenuous difficulties. Sine Nomine will claim that being completely sure of anything would derail the purpose of faith. It is under uncertainty where faith prevails.
Also, we are always striving for free will. We want to make our own decisions, to choose for ourselves, and to do everything our way. However, we fail to realize that Adam and Eve had free will, but they chose to sin. If God prevents or eliminates sin, would that affect our free will? I most definitely think it would.
Pain and suffering cannot be eliminated, but we can make sure we do not cause any of them.
Believing in God is an individual decision. Although I do not practice or preach about religion, I do believe in God, so this book was perfect for me. Still, I think everybody should read this book, it is a great topic for discussion, no matter the religion.
The editing was flawless, I was not able to find any typos. Objectively, I could not say that there was anything that I specifically disliked. For that reason, I would rate this book 5 out of 5 stars.
