Under The Sea is a coloring book created by Patrick May and Kristina M Mangan. The two describe it as "A Seashell Meditation for Children."

Overall, I think the coloring book is done really well. It has both plain coloring pages as well as prompts that let the user do as he/she wants and express their creativity. It also includes quotes.

The drawings are drawn well. The author seemed to put a lot of time into creating the drawings. They are also a good size for children. They're big enough that children can color it, but small enough that it makes sense.

The prompts were very creative. Again, the author clearly put a lot of time into thinking out the prompts as well as setting up the scenes. The prompts are simple enough that children can do things with it, while still being interesting enough that older children, or even adults, can enjoy them. The drawer also included small little pictures relating the prompt to the scene.

The author also incorporated quotes into the prompts. I like this because it gave the children things to think about besides just the prompt. On top of that, it would serve as good reading practice for the children.

The biggest critique I have is the little pictures were very similar to the picture on the next page. I would have preferred more variety or to at least mix up the images. By including a similar image, it seems like taking the easy way out. They could have also included more sea animals. The creators chose very typical and well known sea animals, which is understandable, but in my opinion, they should have included more. They could have used the book as a teaching tool for children.

In addition to those critiques, I feel like the coloring book was a little short. While I was flipping through it, I just seemed to be done too quickly. I wish they provided more pages with more animals and more activities.

I rate this book 3 out of 4 stars. Overall, it was a good book and provides both pictures to color and prompts, as well as quotes to make you think. The only reason it is getting a 3 rather than a 4 is its similarity in certain pictures. The other critiques aren't that important.

If you like to color and enjoy drawing prompts, I definitely recommend this book.
