Galen Bray, the main character in
Matthew Tysz’s novel
We Are Voulhire: A New Arrival under Great Skies, takes us to a fictitious kingdom called Voulhire. Galen is a native of the Lands of Princes, also known as the land of wars, where people either die from slow starvation or “death by the sword.” Galen sails to Voulhire on a boat, where he meets Rowan, his uncle’s executor, who assists him in settling there and taking over the steel forge. Galen hopes to inherit Uncle Galen Onita’s home and forge in Magnum Caelum. Despite not knowing about Voulhire's infamous history or the subsequent events, he begins to make sense of the bizarre surroundings by comprehending their politics and corruption. Rowan gives him his uncle's letter, adding to his duty to maintain the security of the nation. Lord Eldus Alderman, a former judge who became a Lord of Hillport, is hellbent on discovering the truth about Orlin and Meldorath, the past rulers of Hillport, and the wizard who employs forbidden magic on the Voulhire people. Riva Rohavi is the name of the brutal rebel group that everyone fears. Do you want to know about Galen's journey and how each individual fits into the larger story? That's something you'll have to read the book and figure out for yourself.
The map at the beginning of the book was amazing, and it helped me keep track of everyone's whereabouts throughout the story. Since the author presented the story from both first- and third-person viewpoints, it was simpler to understand everyone's perspectives. Galen was a fantastic character. From a young child apprehensive about his future, he developed into a strong individual capable of overcoming any challenge. It was incredible to read about his fortitude and tenacity. I also cherished Rowan and Galen’s relationship. I adored Rowan for being an honest and sincere person with Galen.
As the first volume of a seven-part series, you should anticipate that this book ends on a cliffhanger and that not all of the questions will be answered. This book is perfect for readers who enjoy fantasy stories with magic, action, and mystery because it has all of those elements and more. However, readers should be aware that it does include some graphic content and aspects like violence, death, and profanity, so before you dive in, please remember that. There isn’t anything negative about this book that I dislike or would like to change. The book is well-edited, and I was unable to find a single flaw in it. I enjoyed the book a lot, so I would like to rate this book five out of five stars.

Looks like we might have the same taste in reading material! I read this book as well, and I absolutely loved it! I was a tiny bit disappointed at the cliffhanger, but it was admittedly very effective in making me grab the next installment. The wizard was my favorite character, even over Galen, because there was just so much depth to him. I also had this sneaking suspicion that the wizard wasn't actually the "bad" guy and Galen might not be telling the full truth about himself. I haven't read the second book yet, but I'm excited to see if my suspicions are anywhere near correct! Do you think you'll read the next one???

I have read this book, and I absolutely loved it. It has many intriguing elements and engaging characters. While reading, I didn't feel like Galen was the main character because the author had given equal importance to all the characters. Perhaps he has a more significant role in the other books of this series.
Your review is fantastic, and I enjoyed reading it. Thank you for sharing this wonderful review!

Thank you for sharing such a thoughtful and detailed review of Matthew Tysz's novel, "We Are Voulhire: A New Arrival under Great Skies." Your words beautifully capture the essence of the story and its characters.
It's fantastic to hear that you appreciated the inclusion of a map at the beginning of the book, which added depth and clarity to the story's setting. I was excited to read this book but it failed in keeping me excited throughout the story. Somewhere along the line, I got bored and stopped. Now I am not someone who easily gets bored. I tried to push through, but could not.
Thanks for the review.
