Review of We are Voulhire: A New Arrival under Great Skies

"We are Voulhire: A New Arrival under Great Skies" by Matthew Tysz is a remarkable work of fantasy that immerses readers in a beautifully crafted universe. This story unfolds through the perspectives of various characters, each on their unique journey, which eventually intertwines in a web of fate. From the very beginning, I was captivated by the explosive opening, a narrative choice that shows the author's daring approach and instantly pulls me in.
The book primarily follows two central characters, Galen and Eldus Alderman. Galen, a refugee from a war-torn land, arrives in the kingdom of Voulhire with hopes of starting a new life and managing the forge he inherited from his uncle. The stark contrast between his previous life and the new world he encounters makes for a compelling character development. Eldus Alderman, a former judge, is appointed as the new lord of Hillport by King Wilhelm. His challenge is to transform a town scarred by the legacy of its previous lords, especially the feared mage, Meldorath.
