The Banned Book of Love
By Scott Hughs
Review written by Brandy Beaudin

The Banned Book about Love was defiantly a book to not judge by its cover or prior reviews! It reads more of a how to love thy neighbor piece, it is central around a very sore and touchy subject, but he tries hard for readers to push past and see the moral of the story.

This is about a young man accused of rape and his victim and how much he loves him and why he loves him. Now before you read rape and love in the same sentence, this is not the love that you would give your wife or even child, but the love that you would give your neighbor, or someone just passing by on the street. This is what is known ladies and gents as unconditional love, which he gives freely!

The main character Brock Turner is a young man who was an at a party with the victim; both were sloshed out of their minds, and the next day the victim comes forth with very little memories of the happenings the night before. There a is a sea of hatred that surrounds this case, and he (the MC) is being crucified to the max by the hate spewing from the media, the court, and everyone around him. Scott helps you to see that if you step back from the hate there is more than meets the eye.

I did have to read this book twice, just so that I could understand everything Scott wanted me to learn. I loved the way he wrote as though he was not writing a book. I felt that he was right there sitting next to me telling me this story, he made me smirk, laugh and even a empathize with Brock Turner a little not in pity but in understanding.

There were times in this book where I too got the impression that he condoned the crime, but as I read more he was not condoning it, he was simply saying to love him despite his sickness, let justice be given but not out of anger, out of love!

When Scott wrote about anger having the black and white glasses on, and love being the rose-colored glasses I could understand and this resonated with me. We see black and white; not only in race but as terms of right and wrong! Thought I do sing praises on this book, I will say some of the language was very put offish. There are so many more appreciated words to describe the male genitals, I do understand his end game, but that just made me gasp!

I give The Banned Book of Love a 3 out of 4 star rating, because you do have to look past the context of the work to get to the morally the story, when you finally get there you will see this is not a book about loving molesters or rapist. This is not a story about condoning what they have or have not done. This is a story about learning to love everyone unconditionally, get those with sickness help while getting justice for the victim. Not just sweeping these sick and deranged (as he calls them so many times in the book) individuals under the invisible rug and letting God sort them out.

If we all would just step back from the hate that clouds our judgement then we to can see that Scott is right to love this man, and anyone else who is behind bars, in mental homes, or hospitals! Everyone just needs a little love, understanding and compassion!

This book is geared to more mature adults and is a good read about compassion, and love. You can’t find this book anymore on Amazon or other book outlets, you must contact the author directly though his Facebook page: Scott Hughes. I would recommend this book to my friends for the unconditional love aspect of this read!
