Major Robert Weatherby is a brilliant, handsome, wealthy young man. He is also a war hero with strong political connections. People do not know much about his background, but he is well liked and respected among his peers. No one knows that Weatherby is actually an alien spy who has been sent by the interplanetary intelligence service to watch this planet.

Like other spies sent to different planets containing intelligent life forms, Weatherby has been instructed to simply observe and report his observations. He must never interfere in any way with the cultural or technological advancement of the planet and its native inhabitants. Weatherby does his job flawlessly. When a new agent is brought in to work with Weatherby, emotions get involved and things begin to change.

Sent to Watch by David J. Lebenstein is a sci-fi/fantasy novel with elements of romance, suspense, heartbreak and revenge. I liked many things about this novel. The book was edited quite well and the absence of many errors made reading pleasurable for me. I also liked the author's simple language and writing style, which made reading easy for me. The author gave the characters such depth that they came alive. The plot was clear, it was well-woven and it had a balanced pace.

There were some comedic elements in the book that made me laugh such as the antics of one young boy. Beempu did not want to leave his planet and his holographic games for a planet with very little technology, so he found funny ways to disrupt the adaptation classes he was forced to attend. Perhaps my favourite thing about this novel is the plot twist at the end. I pride myself on being good at predicting how stories end but I honestly could not have predicted this one's ending. In fact, several hours after reading it, I'm still in a bit of shock.

There was nothing I disliked about this book. For the aforementioned reasons, I rate this book five out of five stars. I recommend this novel to young and old readers who like sci-fi/fantasy books or even fiction books in general.
