The Banned Book by Scott hughes is a short booklet of only 14 pages sharing his reactions and thoughts, regarding Brock Turner and the Stanford rape trial. Brock Turner was sentenced to six months in jail. In the months leading up to Brock Turner's sentencing his friends and family members composed letters to the judge, insisting that he consider a lighter sentence. And Turner was sentenced to six months in jail.
Scott Hughes raises valid points not just about rape or other crimes but also discussing the connection of love and hate regarding them. This book explains the benefits of love. It is easier to hate than to love, but it is better to love. The author believes that love is the solution to all problems and urges the reader to love others. One can love someone, but still punish them if needed. While I may not agree one hundred percent with everything the author says, or many of the writer's opinions, there are some valid points. The author is encouraging the reader to love instead of spreading hate.
This book thoughtfully written and the author's opinion about empathy and forgiveness are well presented. The Author does a great job in sharing his views and opinions about hate and love. This book explains that love is harder than hate, and that people make terrible choices, and need consequences. However, when giving those consequences, the feeling of hate should never be motive. Hatred fuels actions and words. But regardless of what they should get, there should always be the hope of restoration, forgiveness and Love.
This book does not support rapists. Instead this book supports the notion of love. I admire the passion the writer seems to have for this subject. Overall, this was a pretty good book with an important message. With only 14 pages, it seems like am easy read. However, Hughes packs a lot content into those few pages. And describes details of the crime and trial. It is a very hard notion that Scott is encouraging the reader to embrace. Only love can bring about true healing for everyone involved.
He also explains that he does not want these types of people to suffer. I do have disagreements with some of this book, but he does make valid points, and I think this book is quite good. I would rate this booklet a 2 out of 4 because I did disagree with some of the views in this booklet.
